I love this quote. It says so much in so few words…

It has been almost a month since my last blog entry. A lot is going on, but for some reason I’ve felt like I’ve had nothing to say. So here is an update, for those of you wondering what’s happening…
One of the 3 new songs I’ve been recording is almost finished, and the other two are getting closer to being complete. They are slightly different from my previous songs, and I love the way they are evolving.
The short film, “Lonely Boy” is almost finished. The editing is complete and the sound is 99% complete. I’m very happy with the film. It was a big challenge for me to direct and act at the same time. I wasn’t sure I could do it well, but I am pleased with the result.
I am still performing Improv each friday, and it continues to be an amazing learning experience. Doing Improvisation has been a major exercise in committing to a choice without evaluating it. What a useful idea for life! VERY freeing! It is a little painful when I feel I’ve personally had a bad show, but even then, I am learning. I had no idea I’d grow so much as an artist and person from Improv.
I’ve had a slight setback regarding singing performances, but hopefully I’ll be performing soon. There is a venue already asking me to perform. Once again, check my website for updated info.
I haven’t been writing much lately (blogs or songs!) and I am planning to start writing some new songs in the next month or so. For some reason I can’t quite figure out, I haven’t been able to gather my thoughts in a cohesive way (to put into a song, blog or journal), even though so much has been happening. I’ve been feeling like I’m sitting on the sidelines of life, watching it pass by without my normal interpreting it and putting it down somehow in a song or some sort of creative act, and making it my own. Thus, this entry, which I’m writing to unblock the block! I guess it is like Improv – make a choice and commit!

I just returned from Royce Hall (once again). This time I saw “Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras”. She and her dancers and musicians were really fantastic. How I love flamenco! This is the second time I’ve seen a Flamenco show (the first was several years ago in Seville, Spain), and there is something about it that gets into my bones. It is so full of passion and emotion. Forget trying to get things “perfect”. To me, flamenco is about emotion, pure and simple. Everything from the hand claps, snaps, stomping, tapping, and singing – it is all a way of expressing the unexpressable. Thank God there are artists in the world. Being exposed to them makes life so much richer.
